ABOUT DEAN & ANGIE

Dean and Angie Yates started Four Seasons Garden Center in 1998 as a retail garden center and design/build landscape company.

Dean grew up in Washington County, Virginia in the High Point community. He was attending John S. Battle High School when his horticulture teacher, Phillip McCroskey, really sparked his interest in horticulture. Dean’s first job was with a garden center in Bristol while he was in high school. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute. During his time there he became interested in Horticulture and Landscape Design as a career and he has loved it ever since. While obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Horticulture he did two internships; one in Baltimore, MD and the other in Raleigh, NC. Both gave him great experience in diverse areas of horticulture. Just before graduation in 1996 he interviewed with a garden center in Kingsport, TN where Angie hired him as a Landscape Designer. In addition to his work at Four Seasons, Dean also teaches several horticulture classes at Virginia Highlands Community College and is a Deacon at Euclid Avenue Baptist Church.

Angie
grew up in Wise, VA and graduated from J.J. Kelly High School in 1989. She went on to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute. While she was there Angie also worked for two local garden centers. In 1993 she earned her Bachelor of Science in Horticulture. After graduation she worked as the Horticulturist for several large golf courses in the Richmond area. In 1994 she moved back closer to home and worked as the Landscape Manager for a garden center in Kingsport, Tennessee. In 1996 she interviewed Dean (and really liked what she saw!). In 1997 she began work as the Horticulturist for the Town of Abingdon and kept that position until 2000 when she began working for Four Seasons Garden Center full time.

Angie and Dean live in Abingdon. They have added three children to their family since starting the business: Hunter, Harley and Kendel.
